Building CalmaFinance: Lessons from a Mobile Finance App

Budget pillars, offline-friendly flows, and release discipline—from our own fintech product.

CalmaFinance is a personal finance app we built end to end—Android, iOS, and calmafinance.com. It's live in the stores, not a portfolio mockup. Here's what mattered when we designed for real users and real money flows.

50/30/20 plus a fourth pillar

Most apps stop at needs/wants/savings. We added unplanned spend as a first-class category because that's what breaks budgets in practice. Product and engineering had to agree on one model before we wrote UI.

Mobile-first, charts second

Users log transactions on the go. We optimized for fast entry and clear categorization, then layered analytics and charts once the core loop felt calm—not overwhelming.

Pipelines for both stores

Separate build flavors, shared business logic, automated smoke tests before TestFlight and Play Console uploads. One broken release erodes trust fast in finance.

Bottom line

We sell the same execution to clients: product thinking, mobile engineering, and DevOps in one team. CalmaFinance is the proof.
